Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender & Queer Therapy
for Individuals & Couples
You may be at the very beginning of your journey, sometimes landing on this page just googling local resources for the first time. You may need support explaining to a new partner or coming out to a family member.
Our role is to help you move forward. Some of our clients want to simply understand themselves, and others want help having others understand them better. You may want to learn how to connect more with your body, and you may not even know what options you have in front of you.
Bright Star Counseling in Sulphur Springs Texas works with clients undergoing many significant life transitions and explorations, including identity, relationships and sexuality.
This includes working with individuals who are transgender (or genderqueer/non-binary), lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, or questioning. We support the LGBTQIA+ community and we are also sex positive.
Our practice regularly walks clients through varied life experiences and supports providing documentation for gender confirmation surgery.
Working together, we might explore:
-
Questions about sexual and gender identities
-
Coming out to family, friends, work or partners as trans
- Helping parents and students navigating this discussion with school
-
Coming out to family, friends, work or partners as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or asexual
-
Preparing for the experience of utilizing any medical assistance including hormone replacement therapy or gender confirmation surgery, as well as discussing this with your friends and family as desired
-
Writing letters of support for medical gender transition.
- Helping partners and couples through this process
ICATH Standards
I believe in Informed Consent and most especially the approach adopted by ICATH. In fact, often my clients are hearing for the first time that documentation from a therapist is not necessary to seek medical support. Doctors that demand this from you may not be your best ally. I always believe that mental health should be a support system during this, not a mandate.
We also support you using the name you most identify with and will endeavor to use this name as well as chosen pronouns. We are mandated to use your birth name of origin (until legal name change) on any documentation for your insurance. Beyond this, you will see our practice affirming all other preferred wording and names. Every individual should be able to express their gender in a way that is comfortable for them.
